Ludwig-Maximilian University

The Department of Dermatology and Allergology of the Ludwig-Maximilian University is one of the largest dermatological clinics in Europe. It has provided excellent patient care for over 100 years and was a place of activity for famous physicians coining the field of dermatology such as Leo von Zumbusch and Alfred Marchionini. Besides the outpatient and stationary units, our Department of Dermatology and Allergology has a special focus on researching the underlying cause, pathophysiology and progression of diseases to improve treatment options. Specifically founded for this purpose, the attached centre for clinical studies investigates new medications, diagnostic methods and therapeutic options with an emphasison quality and good clinical practice, with special focus on the diseases of atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, akne inversa, lichen ruber and urticaria.

Role within ImmUniverse

In the transdisciplinary project of ImmUniverse our team will analyse the microenvironment in patients with atopic dermatitis to help understand the enormous heterogeneity of immune-mediated diseases. Immune cell composition, lipid mediators, inflammation markers, autoantibodies and several other parameters will be examined using various profiling technologies. By closely monitoring our patients, we can detect changes in aetiopathology and explore the cross-link between drug treatment, individual microenvironment and disease progression.
